The following is an email sent by Jeff Sandefer, co-founder of the Acton Academy network. He talks about a visit he made to one of the Acton Campuses.

How do you know you are on a learner driven campus?

I had only been on Valine’s Empowered Minds Academy campus for a few moments when a personable young man approached and introduced himself as “Isa” with a firm handshake and a friendly smile.    

In his hands was a copy of Courage to Grow, which he presented to me with: “This is an important book; you should read it.”

I flipped to the back, pointed at the photo of Laura and said: “You want to know a secret?  That’s my wife.”

He took a step back and said: “Wow, that blows my mind.”

I tried to make conversation: “So what’s one thing you would change, if you were in charge as a guide?”

“Guides aren’t in charge,” he corrected, “we are.”  Then added: “Of course, we do have contracts.”
