Celebrating Holidays from around the world
One of my favorite things to do at Acton Academy Columbus is to celebrate cultures, traditions, and holidays from around the world.
Last year we celebrated Diwali, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, Easter, Passover, and Eid/Ramadan.
When you celebrate other cultures, you come to realize pretty quickly that we are all much more similar than we are different.
All the holidays we celebrate have a common thread of food, family, and celebration. In addition, light is also common in holidays around the world: Diwali, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year.
Understanding and celebrating traditions from around the world helps bring light over darkness and allows us to find joy in all kinds of new ways.
We celebrated Diwali (Festival of Lights) this week by:
Eating traditional Indian food π²
Decorating Diyas πͺ
Making rangoli decorations π‘π΅π’
Dancing Bhangra and Garba styleπΊ
Playing with sparklers β¨
For our celebration, we're especially grateful to Coach D (Ohio Folk Bhangra) for the fun #Bhangra session! πΊπΊ
#HappyDiwali to all!
