No. Children and families of all faiths are welcome at Acton Academy Columbus.

We are not a licensed Montessori school. However, we are inspired by, believe in and incorporate many of the principles of the Montessori methodology, including maintaining an adherence to a multi-age classroom. We are strong proponents of allowing learners to freely move and ensuring they are not tied to their desks. Our approach also incorporates a lot of experiential and project based learning through a focus on learning to be and learning to do.

In addition to adhering to these Montessori principles, we are also inspired by the principles of Reggio Emilia. In addition, we incorporate 21st century e-Learning tools, immerse learners in real-world projects, and adhere to the Socratic method of instruction. Our learners don’t just memorize facts; they learn how to learn, learn how to do, and learn how to be.

Under the State of Ohio, we are designated as a homeschool. We operate with much of the same flexibility that homeschooling families often follow.

Our founders are big believers in the learner-driven approach many homeschooling / unschooling families work to incorporate.

Physically, we are at a location outside of a home.

In alignment with a Montessori principle, we believe that children learn best when working with children younger and older than themselves rather than split up into groups based solely on age.
