Acton Academy Columbus is seeking a Part-Time Growth Studio Guide to join our learner-driven community from January through February to cover a maternity leave.
This temporary role offers the opportunity to inspire young learners in a mixed-age, project-based environment where curiosity, independence, and collaboration drive each day’s learning journey. It may also lead to an ongoing position as an on-call substitute or full-time guide after the leave period.

About Acton Academy Columbus
Acton Academy Columbus is an independent microschool where learners take ownership of their education through hands-on projects, Socratic discussions, and real-world challenges. The Growth Studio (ages 6 – 9) blends Montessori principles with project-based learning and Reggio-inspired creativity to nurture a love of learning, critical thinking, and self-direction.
Position Summary
The Growth Studio Guide supports children as they explore core academic skills, hands-on projects (called Quests), and independent goal-setting. The guide’s role is to ask questions instead of giving answers, helping learners discover their own strengths, build self-management skills, and contribute positively to their community.
This position will provide temporary coverage during a maternity leave period (approximately 8–12 weeks) with flexible start and end dates.
Responsibilities
Facilitate a learner-driven studio where students set goals, manage their time, and take ownership of their learning
Support a culture of curiosity, kindness, and respect through Socratic questioning and positive modeling
Guide daily morning meetings, Core Skills time, and Quest activities using provided materials and frameworks
Observe learners and provide constructive feedback that empowers reflection and growth
Maintain an orderly, inspiring studio environment aligned with Montessori and Acton principles
Communicate and collaborate with other guides and the Head of School to ensure a seamless transition during and after the leave period
Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with children ages 6–9 in a Montessori, Reggio, or project-based learning setting
Deep respect for children’s autonomy and potential
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Ability to think on your feet, stay calm, and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
Passion for learner-driven education and real-world learning
Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
Schedule & Pay
Job Type: Part-time (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Schedule: Approximately 8 AM – 3 PM, 5 days per week
Pay: $18 – $22 per hour (based on experience)
