Hear from Our Community

Real stories from Acton families

Why do families choose Acton? Hear it directly from parents whose children are thriving in a learner-driven environment.

Acton has been amazing for our kids! We took them out of public school because they were bored and it wasn't challenging enough. At Acton, they are learning at their own pace and moving much faster academically.

— Matt, Acton Parent

I like that they can progress at their own pace in core skills... AND can develop leadership skills, team-based skills and have fun. It's hard to get them to leave at the end of the day!

— Paige, Acton Parent

Situations That May Require Further Conversation

These situations warrant deeper discussion

Some learners may thrive at Acton with the right support and readiness. These situations may require deeper discussion with families:

  • Difficulty working independently
  • Limited experience making choices about learning
  • Dependence on adult direction to begin or complete tasks
  • Some difficulty working collaboratively with peers
  • Anxiety around open-ended challenges
What this means

Acton is a learner-driven environment, which means learners must gradually develop the ability to take initiative, reflect on their progress, and engage in community problem solving.

For some learners, a transition period or additional support may help determine fit.

🔍

When Acton May Not Be the Right Fit

Acton may not be right for learners who:
  • Require constant adult direction to remain engaged
  • Are unwilling to take responsibility for their actions
  • Repeatedly disrupt the learning environment
  • Are unwilling to follow studio agreements
  • Require intensive behavioral or therapeutic support beyond what a small learner-driven community can provide
Why this matters

Acton operates with very few adults in the learning environment by design. The studio depends on learners taking responsibility for maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive community.

Our goal is always to find the best educational environment for each child to succeed and grow.
